Lord Kubera Pooja & Its Mantras to Invoke Kubera

Kubera is a minor deity in Hinduism. But he is not to be ignored by human beings who aspire to wealth and material possessions, for he is the God of wealth and the treasurer of the gods in heaven. He has the power to bless people with prosperity and abundance in life. Hindus usually perform Kubera Pooja during Diwali.

Kubera is the custodian of immense wealth. He is the king of the Yakshas and a Dikpal, or guardian of directions. He protects the north direction, and he is also Lokpal, one who protects people. In Vaastu Shastra, the place of Kubera has great importance.

There are many stories about Kubera. He was the son of Vishrava and Ilavila. Some believe that Brahma had created Kubera and made him the custodian of wealth. According to another story, Kubera became Dikpal and Lokpal only after doing penance.

Kubera’s Appearance

In mythology, Kubera is described as fair and having a potbelly, 3 feet, and Ashtadanta. His mount is a donkey. Nalakubara and Manigreeva are his sons. Kubera supposedly began his penance on the Himalayas to please Shiva.

While doing penance, he saw Shiva and Parvati. Kuber gazed at Parvati with his left eye, and due to her divine energy, his left eye turned yellow, and he lost his sight in that eye. But he continued his penance. Shiva was very pleased with Kubera's rigorous penance and appeared before him. He offered him a boon and named him "Ekakshipingal" as one of his eyes was destroyed. He also gave him special powers.

Ravana supposedly attacked Kubera and snatched the Pushpaka Vimana from him. He also captured Lanka and the entire wealth of Kubera. Kubera sought Brahma’s advice to resolve the issue. The latter told him to worship Shiva, who made him the God of wealth and the status of Dhanesh.
