Monday (Somvar)

As per the Hindu mythology, Monday (Somvar) is the day of the moon, as Som means Moon in Hindi. As per legend, Shiva helped Chandra to regain his form from after he started diminishing. So, the moon diminishes (waning moon) for 15 days till new moon and then regains (waxing moon) its form in the next 15 days till full moon and the cycle repeats itself. If you observe, Shiva adorns a crescent in his matted hair. Hence, Mondays are the apt time to offer prayers to Shiva and his consort Parvati. Devotees usually observe fasting to seek knowledge and get their desires fulfilled. Tuesday (Mangalvar)

Tuesday is referred to as Mangalvar in Hindi - Mangal means Mars. Tuesday worship is usually done to the planet Mars and Hanuman. Hindus normally pray to Hanuman to seek his blessings to ward off evil and also to overcome obstacles. Many observe a fast on this day or listen to Hanuman Chalisa. Friday (Shukravar)

Friday is Shukravar in Hindi and it refers to the planet Venus.
