Role of Rahu & Ketu in Pitru Dosha in Horoscope

Rahu and Ketu are the North and South Lunar Nodes, denoting the intersection point of the paths of the Sun and the Moon. They do not have a physical presence or mass but are very potent and impactful. They form the karmic axis, which indicates the types of karma an individual will experience in the current life.

Rahu and Ketu are called the Chaya Grahas (Shadow Planets) and give outcomes according to their placement or relationship with other planets.Rahu, the North Node of the Moon, represents materialism and manipulation. Ketu, the South Node of the Moon, represents detachment and disconnect. Both shadow planets are closely associated with Pitru Dosha.

What is Pitru Dosha?

A Dosha (Affliction) indicates unfavourable planetary placements or combinations in a Kundli (Birth Chart). The most dreaded among them is Pitru Dosha, resulting from the bad karma in your previous life. It occurs when the souls of your ancestors are not at rest due to their negative karma or that of their children, unfulfilled wishes or desires, or the sudden or unnatural death of a young family member.

It is a curse of the previous life's negative karma, which is reflected in the current life in the birth chart and indicated by the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu. The individual with Pitru Dosha in the birth chart must repay the ancestors' debts.

An individual may have to repay the karmic debt for negative karma or misdeeds from a previous life and experience the suffering until it equals the sorrow caused to others or repaying by performing good deeds. Pitru Dosha can also occur if any ancestors up to the 7th generation on the paternal side and up to the 4th generation on the maternal side have died an early or unnatural death or have intense pending karma.

How is Pitru Dosha Formed?

In the birth chart, the 9th House represents the forefathers or ancestors and your Dharma (duty towards ancestors). The 4th House represents your mother and other female ancestors. Any malefic planet can cause Pitru Dosha in the birth chart, but Rahu and Ketu are mainly associated with this affliction.
