What are the myths and facts about lord ganesh?

Lord Ganesha is one of the most popular Hindu Gods, and Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across the country with great excitement. Vinayaka Chaturthi 2023 will also be conducted with the same enthusiasm after a few years of a break due to the pandemic. Most people will be aware of the fact that Ganesha is the first God to be prayed to before the commencement of any ritual. Many myths surround Ganesha, His form, origination, and others. Different scriptures have different versions, which has put many in a state of confusion, but the Vedas are considered the most authentic. Here are some myths and facts about Lord Ganesha as per the Vedas:

Myth and facts about Lord Ganesha

Myth: Goddess Parvati wanted a boy and created Lord Ganesha. It is said in Shiva Purana that Goddess Parvati wanted a boy, and during that time, the Gods created a lot of hurdles for her. Lord Shiva did not grant her the wish and asked her to wait for a century. When this happened, Lord Rudra created a doll with four shoulders and gave it to Parvati. Parvati fell in love with the doll, and Shiva seeing his wife's cravings, gave life to it and called it Lord Ganesha.

Fact: This is said to be an imagination of the then poets and writers and may not to true.

Myth: Goddess Parvati's penance to marry Lord Shiva

It is mentioned in Ganesha Purana that Goddess Parvati penanced for Lord Shiva to appear, but it did not happen. So one of the rishi's said that you are wasting your time with penance; instead, do a Vrata called Ganesha Vrata to get success. Goddess Parvati did so and penanced for a year, after which Lord Shiva married her.

Fact:  This is another fictitious story as it shows Lord Ganesha is alive even before their marriage.

Myth: Ganpati Vrata blessed Goddess Parvati with a boy child. It is said that Goddess Parvati wanted to have a boy child and was worried about how to achieve that. Even Lord Brahma could not help her and said that there is a God beyond us, Trimurti's (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva), and that is Maha Ganapati. Lord Brahma advised Goddess Parvati to do Sankasti Ganapati Vrata. After doing this, she was blessed with a child who was Lord Ganesha.

Fact: Another fancy story that has no basis and is simply followed.

Myth: Lord Ganesha is a demigod and not a God. He is a disciple of Shri Krishan and acts on his behalf.

Fact: It is said that Lord Ganesa does not want to be worshipped as a God but wants people to worship Shri Krishna. This is said as much in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. He said that those who worship demigods get temporary and limited fruits. But those who worship me reach My supreme abode. It added that Lord Ganesha should be prayed to get protection and remove obstacles on the path of devotion.

Whatever the myths and facts about Lord Ganesha, one fact is that people love this God and celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi pooja Vidhana with great devotion. So you, too, celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi 2023 with the same enthusiasm.
