Vaastu Tips For an Indian Wedding

Vaastu Shastra is the ancient Indian science of harnessing the elements of nature and the energy of directions to create harmony, peace, wealth, and joy in life.

People use Vaastu in their homes and workplaces to attract positive energy. It can also be used for Indian weddings. One can also use Vaastu for the wedding mandap, stage, banquet hall, seating arrangements, entry point, etc. By making use of certain Vaastu principles, you can ensure a smooth marriage ceremony as well as love, happiness, wealth, and good health for the couple who are getting hitched. Below, you can find some great Vaastu tips for Indian weddings.

 Vaastu for Marriage Mandap

The most important ceremony in any Hindu wedding is the Saat pheras or Mangal pheras. Vaastu can help make your marriage stable, happy, and prosperous. For this, you need to incorporate some Vaastu principles related to seating, decoration, and the direction of the wedding mandap.

The mandap should have a square shape. Its 4 pillars must be made of wood or bamboo, and metal must not be used. Use flowers and banana leaves to decorate the columns.

As per Indian traditions and Vaastu Shastra, the bride and the groom tie the knot before the sacred fire in the mandap. The couple should sit facing the east direction, while the mandap should be in the northeast direction.

The sacred fire of marriage should be lit only in the square mandap or a havan kund made of bricks that have equal length, breadth, and height. If such bricks are not available, the fire should be lit only in the square mandap.

How to Use Vaastu in Indian Weddings

Several ceremonies take place during a traditional Hindu wedding. For each ceremony, you can use some Vaastu tips so that your marriage will be happy, enduring, and fulfilling.

Mehendi

Mehendi has been part of Indian weddings since 5000 BC. Supposedly, when Shiva and Parvati got married, Goddess Parvati applied Mehendi to please Shiva. Since then, it has been the custom for the bride and groom to apply Mehendi as a good omen. It can bring joy and good fortune and also has positive vibes. If you decide to have a Mehendi ceremony, ensure that the stage faces the east direction.

Sangeet

For the sangeet ceremony, the stage has to be in the west direction. This enables an auspicious start to your new life. The bride or the groom has to face the east direction while watching the dance performances during the Sangeet.

Haldi

Vaastu, Astrology, and Ayurveda aver that turmeric or Haldi is one of the purest materials used in marriage. Its yellow color is associated with good fortune. So, it is applied to both the bride and the groom. Also, Haldi supposedly shields the groom and the bride from the evil eye and wards off any negative energy surrounding them.

Mandap

The mandap has to be square in shape, like the havan kund. The four pillars or columns should be of wood, and one should use banana leaves and beautiful flowers to adorn them. The direction of the mandap has to be in the northeast direction.

Saat Pheras/Mangal Phera Ceremony

In this ceremony, the couple goes around the sacred fire 7 times. Here, too, the directions are very important. The bride and groom should sit towards the east, as the sacred fire unites them in a joyful and holy bond.

Vidhaai/Farewell

This is a farewell ceremony, where the bride’s family bids a tearful farewell to the new bride as she leaves the parental home to begin a new life with her husband and his family. The ceremony is marked by both sadness and joy.

Vaastu for Marriage Hall

Most Indian weddings are celebrated in a grand banquet hall these days. But, not all wedding halls have good vibes, and the reason is that they are not constructed according to Vaastu principles.

To have a good married life, you can follow some Vaastu tips when choosing the marriage hall. There are additional tips for marriage hall decoration and directions in Vaastu.

The wedding hall entrance must be from the east or north direction.

The marriage hall’s shape has to be square or rectangular. Do not choose halls with oval or round shapes. Rectangular and square shapes are associated with stability and integrity in marriage, as per Vaastu.

The food should be prepared in the southeast direction of the banquet hall.

The food arrangements and stalls have to be toward the north or northwest direction.

All the vehicles should be parked in the southeast or northwest direction.

The electrical equipment should be located in the southeast direction.

The stage where the couple sits has to be arranged in the west so that the groom and the bride sit facing the east. The east direction is very auspicious.

Seat the guests in the southwest direction or the north direction.

Mandap should be in the northeast direction. It is one of the sacred corners called Ishaan Kona. The fire has to be lit in the southeast corner.

The owner’s room should be in the southwest direction.

The toilets in the marriage hall have to be in the west or northwest direction.

The stairs of the banquet hall need to be in the west, south, or southwest direction.
